MDG Action Toolkit

The MDG Action Toolkit was developed after WGNRR’s involvement in the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) in 2005. During this project, it was found that members were typically only engaging with the Millennium Development Goals relatively superficially, despite feeling that the goals can complement existing commitments and need to be worked with. Members expressed the need to increase their knowledge and skills in this area and thus, the Toolkit was developed in response. It is aimed at helping users understand the linkages between sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and the MDGs and providing information and tools to enable them to utilise human rights commitments to push for a holistic and comprehensive interpretation of the goals.

The Toolkit was developed in partnership with the Dutch-based NGO Aim for human rights, and their Health Rights of Women’s Assessment Instrument (HeRWAI) is an integral part of it.  The Toolkit shows how the HeRWAI can be used to analyse any MDG-related policy and assess how well human rights commitments relating to SRHR are integrated.  Specific recommendations for improvements are developed as a result of the analysis and the Toolkit also includes advice and guidance on developing an advocacy or campaign plan to implement these changes.

WGNRR is planning activities and trainings, using the MDG Action Toolkit to further our overall goal and contribute to our advocacy and campaigns strategy.
